Online-Installation

As part of PAF Introducing ..., the online-installation negotiates issues of class, gender and migration. In a subtle way it plays with conventions of fashion shows and refers to a current phenomenon in which so-called "workwear" finds its way into high fashion contexts. What's classy if you're rich, but trashy if you're poor?

JANUARY 07 to ∞

Dear Audience, dear Friends of Tanztage Berlin,

due to the ongoing uncertain planning situation, after three attempts of postponing the festival since January 2021, we have to inform you with a heavy heart that the event won’t take place this year. The twelve performances we were supposed to present received an invitation to participate in its next edition in January 2022. The artists received their production/revival grants, cancellation fees, and rehearsal space and dramaturgical support throughout the season. The works are finished and ready to be presented live. On July 1st, we are going to publish an open call for Tanztage Berlin 2022. We would like to thank the artists and our audience for their patience and understanding. We were very happy about the interest in our online kickoff of the Tanztage in January – you can still find the podcasts of the online kickoff on our website

          April 13 | 8.15 PM | Artist Talk
On April 13 there will be an Artist Talk in English via Zoom with choreographer Kareth Schaffer and performers Mădălina Dan and Manon Parent. Moderation: Mateusz Szymanówka. Click HERE to register. Click here to download the Zoom manual. To participate, you must download the Zoom software and agree to its privacy policy.

In her new work, choreographer Kareth Schaffer addresses the demons of today’s world: Between actionism and laziness, distraction and apathy, the performers Mădălina Dan and Manon Parent fight their way through stage designer Dan Lancea's inflating stage landscape. Between potato chip-fueled fantasies of world and self-improvement, smartphone-induced contactless impro or a lethargic yawning contest, rage suddenly erupts from the dancers - until the next moment of distraction. To the subtle synthesizer rhythms of sound designer Jean P'ark, a demonology of the contemporary unfolds, exploring the multiple bodily constitutions into which we are placed in the name of different belief systems. At the same time, the piece creates a space of experience for the wonders that have always been possible even beyond spiritual asceticism and the Work-Hard-paradigm.

KARETH SCHAFFER is a choreographer and performer: in her "post-postmodern" dance pieces she has so far examined prophecies, mud wrestling, thrillers, synchronised swimming, foley, emoticons and conversation formats, among others. Her most recent works include a diptych about the tragic heroine Kassandra (Cassandra Has Turned 1 + 2, 2018), a fan fiction piece about Angela Merkel (Merkel Dances, 2019) and a comprehensive investigation of foley, the dubbing of sounds in film, as a choreographic tool (Unheard Of, 2016). Schaffer is a Pina Bausch Scholar and was nominated by the Jahrbuch Tanz for the "Dancer of the Year 2018" award.
