Duration

• The performance lasts a total of 3 hours.
• It is a durational performance.
• You book a time slot of 30 minutes, but you can stay until the end of the performance if you want. You can also leave the room and come back at any time.

Language

• English spoken language
• There is a zine about the performance in German and English. There is a reading area in the Festsaal where the zine is available.

Stage

• The performers move through the space and form some immobile sculptures with their bodies. They move slowly and fluidly with each other.
• There are some large objects in the space that guide the audience through the space (e.g. a sculpture made of chairs - not for sitting, old windows, stacked materials).

Light

• The lighting situation is rather dark and dim.
• The objects in the room are dimly lit.
• The lighting in the room consists of fixed floor lights, small movable work lights and video projections.
• The light and the projections move from one place to another.
• Landscape images can be seen in the projections.

Sound

• During the performance there is a continuous soundtrack.
• The soundtrack consists of conversations, songs and a general experimental soundscape of movement.
• There are also small speakers that play conversations and songs around the space.

Other effects

• Haze is used in the space.

Atmosphere

• The performance intentionally creates an atmosphere of disorientation. In the space, the audience encounters various projections, small loudspeakers with sound and the performers in different areas.

Audience

• The audience is invited to move around the room. If they want to sit down in between, there are some stools and 3 beanbags available in the hall.
• The audience can leave and return to the space at any time.
• The performers are in close proximity to the audience.

Content

• Explicitly sexual conversations are played over the speakers.
• There will be piercing among the performers and the use of needles and blood can be seen.

Early boarding

If, for artistic reasons, the door to the auditorium does not open until very shortly before the performance begins, there is the option of early boarding.

• When you buy tickets, you book a time slot of 30 minutes for the performance. There are 6 time slots in total.

RUINS is a durational performance over 3 hours. The audience is gradually admitted to the Festsaal within the booked time slot. You can stay in the room as long as you like and leave and come back any time.

LIZ ROSENFELD (USA/ DE, they/them) work has shown in various international museums and venues including The Berlinische Galerie, The Berlinale, Sophiensæle, HAU Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, The Tate Modern, The Hammer Museum, The Leslie Lohman Museum, The Barbican Centre, and The German Historical Museum. Liz received an MFA in Performance from SAIC, 2005, followed by an MA from NYU in Performance Studies.

AN*DRE NEELY (PT) is an artist working with performance, writing and digital practice. They have worked at venues including KW Institute/Berlin Biennale, Ballhaus OST, HAU Hebbel am Ufer Berlin, The Gorki Theatre, Fierce Festival, Tramway, Warehouse9, ArkDes, and Teatro da Politécnica. an* is a recipient of the Tanzpraxis Stipend of the Berlin Senat in 2022/23, and hold a BA (2017) in Performance Art, from RCSSD, University of London.

Liz and an*dre have been working together since 2017, maintaining a close artistic and dialogical exchange. In 2020, their personal essay Unacknowledged Desire(s): Fractures. Impressions. Holes., was published by the HAU Hebbel am Ufer. RUINS is their first live work.
