It is one thing to pick up on current discourse and to share and expound your wisdom on stage, but it’s another thing to put up resistance as activists on a grassroots level, in times of hate and fear. Markus&Markus tracked down activists, chronicled their actions on video and apprenticed with them. Their stories now find their way out of the world and into the theatre. With a super-charged media environment saturated with music, videos and disruptive props, Die Berufung takes a hopeful journey across the Republic.
Markus&Markus is a theater collective from Hildesheim consisting of Lara-Joy Bues, Katarina Eckold, Markus Schäfer and Markus Wenzel. Together, the collective stands for a unique form of documentary theater, passionate investigation and a radical lack of perfection. Each work is based on intensive research, which, by being captured on video, forms an elementary component of their work. However, the collective is not concerned with documenting a reality and explaining the world – instead, the theater context is crucial for accessing reality. Their performances have been shown at international festivals and have received, among others, the George Tabori Förderpreis. Since 2016 Markus&Markus receives conceptual funding from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture.
