Living Room

In Living Room Clémentine M. Songe (aka Clément Layes) explores the dynamics of the living room, that place where we surround ourself with things that feel familiar, intimate, recognizable, safe. Transforming this room into a ‘living room’, a room that makes its own choices. In collaboration with an architect, a light designer and a visual artist, Clémentine M. Songe bare the many interrelations that appear between our lives and this place, showing how much we take our habitual environment for granted, relying on it in order to feel ‘at home’ in the world.

Tanztage Berlin 2022
Tanztage HP mit Text schwarz
© Jan Grygoriew

In tandem with emerging dance artists connected to our city, Tanztage Berlin 2022 continues to examine what keeps us together and tears us apart. After 2021 the festival took place exclusively online, its 31st edition returns as an extended offline and online program. Alongside the last year’s selection of performances, it includes new creations and discourse formats on power, protest, and empowerment. The work presented during Tanztage Berlin 2022 critically navigates the present by reimagining past and future encounters on the dance floor. While dealing with acute problems like power relations, surveillance, disembodiment, or climate change, it tunes into the social body, creating much-needed moments of awareness, connectedness, and self-determination. Unlike the 21st-century billionaire strategy of abandoning earth in a rocket ship or escaping into a parallel virtual universe, the festival chooses instead to stay with the trouble: to celebrate dancing together through the crisis and against despair.

The workshop series for anyone who wants to bring more movement into their everyday (work-)life!
Day-to-day life can make us tired and bored: The same thing every day, over and over again.... Even the things we like can lose their glow over time. So often we long for something brand new, something that feels special. But instead of going in search of new experiences - what could be ways to perceive the extraordinary in the everyday? In this workshop we will wake up our bodies and senses and arrive in the here and now. We will rediscover familiar movements and objects of our life at home and transform our everyday life into a game.

The different exercises and small choreographies are easily transferable to your practice with children, teenagers and adults. A script summarizes all the exercises for your own (pedagogical) work or to repeat in your own four walls.

The performance Living Room, which will be shown after the workshop, also takes an unusual look at what can happen in our own living room. Participation in the workshop allows the purchase of a discounted ticket for the performances of Living Room (all dates) at the price of 10 euros.

Previous dance experience is not necessary. Please bring comfortable clothes and something to drink.
