The children Charlotte and Felix emerge from the sea and play as their dead parents on the beach. It's a ritual the two have been practicing for years. In memory of their parents' wild exuberance, they put sunscreen on their backs and tickle each other until they can hardly breathe. For brief moments, all sadness falls away from them. Again and again, however, the different needs of the two ten- and eleven-year-old siblings break into the game.

In her 1974 science fiction novel The Dispossessed, Ursula Le Guin describes an ambivalent social utopia that makes political ideas such as anarchism, socialism and capitalism tangible. HORIZON PROBLEMS is dedicated to this multi-layered scenario and makes it experienceable from a queer-feminist perspective with the means of contemporary dance. The bodies on stage challenge and nourish each other, play, and exploit – a microcosm of solos and imperfect unison.

We live in the midst of horror and we are used to it. Houses freezing without heating, forests on fire, families running across the border while others go shopping. Michelle Moura, part of the Tanzplattform 2022, approaches the physical language of horror – its exaggeration and hyperbole – to reflect the present. Three dancers move through life and death, wonder and laughter, violence and fragility in a magical, grotesque realm.

PREMIERE

in German

In a run-down theatre at the foot of Prenzlauer Berg, the Panda Pussies run a research enclosure on their own account. Their counterpart: HAPPY PANDA, the central figure of a mindfulness coaching programme for children. Seething with rage at so much affect control and depoliticisation even at pre-school age, the Panda Pussies strike back. With their paws they play the keyboard of emotions so that everything gets mixed up and nobody knows who is who any more. And, by the way, they also thwart their own reintroduction into the wild. An inclusive, intergenerational panda bambulism with lots of bamboo.
