We are looking for participants for the episode #1 at K3 – Centre for Choreography | Tanzplan Hamburg | 28-30 May, 2021
In cooperation with the cultural producer Alexandra Schmidt and the dramaturge and curator Anne Kersting, the K3 – Centre for Choreography | Tanzplan Hamburg, HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts and Sophiensæle Berlin are offering an advanced training programme for freelance dance dramaturges dedicated to dramaturgical practice in dance.
The academy is a mediation format for and by the dance scene, in which up to eight dramaturges (at the beginning of their dramaturgical career and interested in refining their practice) apply to explore the requirements of dance dramaturgy in exchange with experienced choreographers. It is a meeting place for evaluating and visioning the expectations and requirements of dance dramaturgy in a critical dialogue. We understand the exchange as a researching, teaching and knowledge-sharing method.
The academy is aimed at people at the beginning of their dramaturgical career in the field of dance who would like to deepen their questions about their own practice, seek an exchange with colleagues and have a desire to develop possible new working models. The programme can accommodate up to eight dramaturges. The three episodes of the academy will take place in German and/or English and will be accompanied by moderators who themselves come from a dramaturgical practice.
The format of the three planned episodes always follows the same principle: it is a dialogue format between the dance practitioners and serves the mutual questioning of expectations and demands on dramaturgy, as well as the search for solution-oriented experimental arrangements. The constellations change from episode to episode.

The first episode will take place from 28-30 May, 2021 at K3 – Centre for Choreography | Tanzplan Hamburg. Episodes 2 and 3 will be planned afterwards and will take place at HELLERAU and Sophiensæle, subject to further funding. An evaluation and planning meeting for this is planned for August 27-29, 2021 in HELLERAU.
Applications are possible until 14 February, 2021. Please send your application including a written CV and a letter of motivation (What was your greatest challenge? How did you deal with it? - max. one A4 page) to tanzplan@kampnagel.de. We are also happy to accept short video or voice recordings.
The prerequisite for an application is at least two years of professional experience in the field of dramaturgy as a production dramaturge in dance and a focus of work in Germany. Participation in the academy is free of charge, travel expenses (within Germany) and accommodation in Hamburg will be covered, and all participants will receive a daily allowance. The decision regarding participation will be announced in the first week of March.
