No one’s coming, everyone’s going! On July 24, 2020, an enormous festival will take place in Berlin where a stunning number of independent artists and culture makers working in all disciplines will take part – by not showing up. During the coronavirus pandemic, many freelance artists and culture makers have been unable to earn money and pay their living costs. This is why we’re turning to you: Show your solidarity! Buy a ticket for Berlin’s (non) event of the year and don’t show up!

Tanztage Berlin 2021 | Call for Applications

TO ALL EMERGING CHOREOGRAPHERS IN BERLIN

Every year the Tanztage Berlin is the very first festival to kick off the new year in the city. Since it was founded in 1996, the festival has evolved into an important platform both nationally and internationally for upcoming choreographers in Berlin. The next edition of the Tanztage Berlin will take place under the new artistic direction of Mateusz Szymanówka. Currently, the festival is planned to take place between January 7 and 23, 2021 – but decisions about the exact time frame and the form of the festival will be subject to the continuous reassessment of the pandemic. The festival offers emerging choreographers based in Berlin a framework to showcase their new and existing productions.

APPLICATIONS FOR PREMIERES OR EXISTING PRODUCTIONS

1ST MODULE: PREMIERES

The Tanztage Berlin can support a limited number of productions presenting their premiere at the festival. For these selected productions there is a grant for production costs available between 3000 € and 6000 € depending on expenditures for personnel. Performers will receive a fee of 250 € per person for the first and 200 € for the second show. Travel and accommodation expenses will only be reimbursed in exceptional cases.

SPECIAL SERVICE: DRAMATURGICAL SUPPORT

Selected productions will receive in-depth dramaturgical support during the development of the piece by emerging dramaturgs from Berlin. The artists selected for Tanztage Berlin 2021 will be invited to an online workshop on accessibility and the aesthetic of access on October 24, 2020 led by the dramaturg and curator Noa Winter.

2ND MODULE: EXISTING PRODUCTIONS

In addition, existing productions can be submitted as guest productions. These productions receive a grant to rehearse for a revival. Performers will receive a fee of 250 € per person for the first and 200 € fort the second show. Travel and accommodation expenses will only be reimbursed in exceptional cases.
