Pas de Q enters the classical ballet world to turn choreographic forms and traditions upside down and reinvent them. A queer ensemble of male and non-binary dancers
pushes movement, dance and queer aesthetics to the extreme. In a utopian science fiction world, the team fuses drag art and pointe dance into a labyrinth of imaginative perversions, beyond morality and shame.

In the scenic adaptation of his own text, the Syrian-German performance and video artist Enad Marouf deals with loss from a queer perspective: the loss of family, home and relationships, but also that of meaning and language. The audience enters a place where fragments overlap. Two figures move through scenes whose internal coherence continues to unravel through memories, anecdotes, and associative references.

JANUAR 05 – 21

Hey, why do you look so tired? "Urgency culture" expects us to be connected and responsive constantly. There is little to no time left to imagine the world otherwise. Tanztage Berlin – a yearly festival highlighting the work of the city's emerging dance makers – is back to diagnose the present and predict the future. Its 32nd edition investigates our daily overstimulation and chronic fatigue by reflecting on how we move to the rhythm of today's high-speed, social media-driven reality and its challenges.

TO ALL emerging DANCE ARTISTS BASED IN BERLIN

Every new year, the Tanztage Berlin is not only the city's very first festival, it has also established itself nationally and internationally as an important platform for emerging dance artists since its founding in 1996. The next edition of Tanztage Berlin will once again take place under the artistic direction of Mateusz Szymanówka. The festival is currently planned for 5-21 January 2023 - however, the form as well as the exact date will depend on the constant reassessment of the pandemic. The festival offers emerging dance artists based in Berlin a framework for their new productions and revivals.

The program of the last two editions can be found at: https://tanztage-berlin.sophiensaele.com/en/

In the Tanztage Berlin podcast you can hear more about the history of the festival: https://tanztage-berlin.sophiensaele.com/en/on-demand/plotting-futures-together-happy-birthday-tanztage/

With Tanztage Berlin, we want to support ways of working that represent as diverse a range of lifeworlds and experiences as possible. We therefore welcome applications from people with and without disabilities, with marginalised perspectives and projects with diverse, cross-age casts. We accept applications with productions that can be presented in the festival in different formats, such as stage performance, online performance, durational performance, installation, video. The majority of the works during Tanztage Berlin will be presented as double bills.

Our team has entered a process of transformation and is dealing with ways of thinking and working that are inclusive, criticize power structures, and are sensitive towards discrimination. Currently, the majority of our staff are white and non-disabled. We are aware that this can be a challenging situation for BIPoC and people with disabilities who start working with us. You are welcome to make statements in your application concerning your positioning, if you wish to do so.
