TO ALL EMERGING DANCE ARTISTS BASED IN BERLIN
Since 1996, Tanztage Berlin has presented innovative and genre-bending work by Berlin artists in the field of contemporary dance, choreography and performance. This producing platform is a unique opportunity for the city's broadly defined choreographic newcomers and artists that have recently arrived in Berlin to present their work to a loyal local and international audience. With its 32 editions, the festival has proven many times what constitutes its DNA: it encourages artistic risk-taking, experimental formats and visions that not only challenge conventional narratives about dance and choreography but also question the status of the body in the contemporary world.
The next edition of Tanztage Berlin will again take place under the artistic direction of Mateusz Szymanówka. The festival is currently planned for 5-20 January 2024. The festival offers emerging dance artists based in Berlin a framework for their new productions and revivals.

2. MODULE: PREMIERES - PERFORMANCE INSTALLATIONS
For the next edition of Tanztage Berlin, we are looking for new projects in the form of performance installations that artistically deal with the relationship between dance and disorder. We are interested in projects exploring disorder as a state or condition in its choreographic and socio-political dimension and using it to reflect the social order, power relations and norms. How can thinking through disorder open new possibilities for movement, expression and social organisation? The projects will be presented at Sophiensaele’s Kantine throughout the festival.
We offer:
- a production grant of between € 7,000 and € 12,000, depending on the personnel costs (e.g. the number of project participants)
- a daily fee of 380€ per person per performance for the collaborators involved in the realisation of the project (choreographers, performers or lighting and sound designers)

With Tanztage Berlin, we want to support ways of working that represent as diverse a range of lifeworlds and experiences as possible. We, therefore, welcome applications from people with and without disabilities, with marginalised perspectives and projects with diverse, cross-age casts. We accept applications with productions that can be presented in the festival in different formats, such as stage performance, online performance, durational performance, installation, video. Most of the works during Tanztage Berlin will be presented as double bills.
Our team has entered a transformation process and is dealing with ways of thinking and working that are inclusive, criticise power structures, and are sensitive towards discrimination. Currently, the majority of our staff are white and non-disabled. We know this can be challenging for BIPoC and people with disabilities who start working with us. You are welcome to make statements in your application concerning your positioning if you wish to do so.
THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS 03 SEPTEMBER 2023.
