The interdisciplinary project Terrestrial Transit deals with the activist practice of artistic intervention, which is gaining importance again in the former communist countries of Eastern Europe, in view of the strengthening of right-wing authoritarian regimes. The work of the dance company CRANKY BODIES a/company, founded in August 2020 by Peter Pleyer and Michiel Keuper, refers in particular to political forms of protest in the tradition of Polish and Hungarian dance and performance art before the fall of the Wall.

In Persian and English

The Sophiensaele elevator is currently out of order.

The Sophiensæle are happy to be able to catch up this summer with the work of Kiana Rezvani from the Tanztage Berlin 2022 programme, which could not be presented during the festival in January due to the pandemic.

A meeting point, a friendship, a secret space where stories of fear, joy and agency are recalled. Cyber Ghosts plays around with the notions of surveillance and control in an ironic, intimate and poetic setting. Kiana and Roham meet online in an environment that feels uncertain, unstable and, at times, threatening. Through dances and songs they explore feelings that have been repressed and stigmatized and develop collective survival strategies. In a space that connects the stage of the Sophiensæle and a rural house in Iran, where Roham lives, somewhere in between delight and distress, they withstand in their glow; for dance that is the poison.

Cyber Ghosts runs about 50 minutes. It uses English and Farsi spoken and written language. The light situation is rather dark and there might be flashing light effects. There will be loud music. Hearing protection is provided at the entrance. The audience area on the grandstand is seated. There are two wheelchair spaces and one beanbag seat that can be reserved by phone or booked via the online ticket shop, if available. Admission begins 20-30 minutes prior to show time. We recommend arriving early to select a suitable seat. Please note that details may change until the premiere. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Gina Jeske at jeske@sophiensaele.com or 030 27 89 00 35.

Kiana Rezvani is a choreographer and performer from Iran, based in berlin that plays around with a status of continuous in betweenness. Kiana’s artistic works search for untold, hidden and suppressed histories, memories and narratives, finding meanings and creating new relations that challenge the dominant colonial, imperial perspectives. in choreographic works, Kiana focuses on the densities of emotions, sensations and affects and creates enchanted spaces for poetic resilience. Kiana is the cofounder of cobracobra collective.

Roham Amiri Far is a body-based performer. His works are mainly experiential and in the fields of experimental dance film, narrative film and writing. His work is situated in between dance and his living concerns: combining the somatic and spiritual with the focus on the political and queer body. His interest is the decentralization of artistic practice and body listening. Based on this idea he has been living in a village for some time in order to discover a way to connect his two main interests: dance and nature.

TO ALL emerging DANCE ARTISTS BASED IN BERLIN

Every new year, the Tanztage Berlin is not only the city's very first festival, it has also established itself nationally and internationally as an important platform for emerging dance artists since its founding in 1996. The next edition of Tanztage Berlin will once again take place under the artistic direction of Mateusz Szymanówka. The festival is currently planned for 5-21 January 2023 - however, the form as well as the exact date will depend on the constant reassessment of the pandemic. The festival offers emerging dance artists based in Berlin a framework for their new productions and revivals. The programme of the last two editions can be found at: https://tanztage-berlin.sophiensaele.com.
