As events with public attendance are still not possible, the installation cannot take place live in the Sophiensæle courtyard as planned. Instead, we will here publish an audio piece, which combines the interview material with an audio description of the setting, as well as photos - and thus make the installation an experience in one's own imagination.

There will be an opportunity to learn more about the project Working Class Daughters and the themes of the work at an Artist Talk on May 28th at 8pm. Alexander Kirchner, dramaturg at the Sophiensæle, will meet the author, theater maker and cultural activist Luise Meier and the artists Kristina Dreit, Karolina Dreit and Anna Trzpis-McLean for a discussion. PLEASE REGISTER HERE.

A car stands there. Trunk open. The radio is playing. Women* and queers are talking. And they talk about class. Based on interviews, the installation Fashionshow: Working Class Daughters negotiates questions of class, gender and migration. In the process, one's own role as, among other things, a working class academic is reflected upon - and almost incidentally, intersectionality and links to other identity and structural categories are revealed. The installation is based on a previous performance and the T-shirt collection specially designed for it, and conceptually takes up images of Eastern European flea markets and informal trade. She subtly refers to a current phenomenon in which so-called "work-wear" finds its way into high-fashion contexts.

What's classy if you're rich, but trashy if you're poor?

Working Class Daughters speaks of women* in order to mark the social constructedness and limitation of the category and thus refers to all people who self-identify as women and/or are read as such and thus are affected by sexism.

WORKING CLASS DAUGHTERS is a cycle of work on the interconnections of class, gender and migration that Kristina Dreit, Karolina Dreit, Anna Trzpis-Mclean have been working on since 2018. Based on (their own) post-Soviet migratory experiences and a long friendship and sisterhood, they are especially interested in (biographical) stories that remain invisible or hardly find a voice, as well as historical and current references to labor and labor struggles.

TO PAF 2021 INTRODUCING ...
To get your foot in a door, it first has to be open a crack. Because it is especially difficult for young artists who are not yet established in the Berlin scene to find an open door, the right place for them and their audience, the PAF is once again presenting noteworthy newcomers with Introducing... this year. From almost 100 submissions, Ballhaus Ost, HAU Hebbel am Ufer, TD Berlin and Sophiensæle jointly selected four productions: Kristina + Karolina Dreit, Anna Trzpis-Mclean with Fashion Show: Working Class Daughters, the paranormal φeer group and Befriending Ghosts. Digital Hauntings, cmd+c Family of the Year and elegance from Reflex with RED OR DEAD.

KRISTINA DREIT, *1988 in Krupskoje/Kazakhstan, studied scenic arts in Hildesheim and Zurich as well as at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and works on performative settings as director, dramaturge, artist.

KAROLINA DREIT, *1984 in Karabulak/Kazakhstan, is a sociologist and co-editor of the anthology Ambivalences of Normativity in Critical Feminist Scholarship.  She engages in artistic, collective, and political contexts and works from feminist and intersectional perspectives on class, labor, precarity, and precarization.

ANNA TRZPIS-MCLEAN, *1984, Mielec/Poland, studied at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main and works as a designer in the fields of stage design, object, space and drawing. annatrzpismclean.com

JANUARY 07 to ∞

Dear Audience, dear Friends of Tanztage Berlin,

due to the ongoing uncertain planning situation, after three attempts of postponing the festival since January 2021, we have to inform you with a heavy heart that the event won’t take place this year. The twelve performances we were supposed to present received an invitation to participate in its next edition in January 2022. The artists received their production/revival grants, cancellation fees, and rehearsal space and dramaturgical support throughout the season. The works are finished and ready to be presented live. On July 1st, we are going to publish an open call for Tanztage Berlin 2022. We would like to thank the artists and our audience for their patience and understanding. We were very happy about the interest in our online kickoff of the Tanztage in January – you can still find the podcasts of the online kickoff on our website
