As part of PAF Introducing ..., the online-installation negotiates issues of class, gender and migration. In a subtle way it plays with conventions of fashion shows and refers to a current phenomenon in which so-called "workwear" finds its way into high fashion contexts. What's classy if you're rich, but trashy if you're poor?

JANUARY 07 to ∞

Dear Audience, dear Friends of Tanztage Berlin,

due to the ongoing uncertain planning situation, after three attempts of postponing the festival since January 2021, we have to inform you with a heavy heart that the event won’t take place this year. The twelve performances we were supposed to present received an invitation to participate in its next edition in January 2022. The artists received their production/revival grants, cancellation fees, and rehearsal space and dramaturgical support throughout the season. The works are finished and ready to be presented live. On July 1st, we are going to publish an open call for Tanztage Berlin 2022. We would like to thank the artists and our audience for their patience and understanding. We were very happy about the interest in our online kickoff of the Tanztage in January – you can still find the podcasts of the online kickoff on our website

Education

The Sophiensæle consider themselves to be an open place in which interaction and exchange with the audience play a central role. In cooperation with Tanzscout Berlin, movement-oriented introductions to dance productions take place on a regular basis. In the workshop series Raus aus dem Kopf, rein in den Körper (Getting out of your head, into your body) pedagogues get inspiration for their work with children, adolescents and adults and in the workshop Was ist eigentlich...Performance?! young students can explore by themselves what performance art actually means.

The Sophiensæle info newsletter informs regularly about performances that are suited for children and young people as well as our educational activities. In addition to our regular offers, you are welcome to contact us in order to arrange an individual format such as production-related workshops, introductions and/or follow-up discussions with the artists.

INTRODUCTIONS TO DANCE PRODUCTIONS

Take a look behind the scenes with Tanzscout! In a one-hour (physical) introduction before the show we will prepare ourselves for the following performance. With background information on the production and the artists, with choreographic ideas and movement material used in the production, with playful and practical discussions on the themes and working methods, and with further exchange on interesting and explorable topics. The introductions are carried out in cooperation with TANZSCOUT BERLIN, the dance mediation team of Berlin based dramaturges and dancers.

Was ist eigentlich… Performance?! - WORKSHOP For students

Why does the artist Marina Abramovic tear her hair out? Does theatre need a theatre room? Can locusts make theatre plays? In this workshop we will explore together where the difference between a play, a production and a performance lies and what performance actually means. We will present different performative strategies and try them out together. We will practice performing actions instead of playing roles. Together we will look for ways to stage reality. We will ask places and objects about their stories. And we will practice telling lies that sound like truth. The workshop is aimed at groups of students aged 15 and over (9th grade) and can take place either at Sophiensæle (Sophienstraße 18, 10178 Berlin) or in the premises of the school, depending on availability.

THE REGISTRATION AND INDIVIDUAL appointment for the workshop can be made by e-mail or telephone with Gina Jeske at jeske@sophiensaele.com / Tel: 030-27 89 00 34.

WORKSHOPS FOR PEDAGOGUES

For pedagogues, we regularly offer production-related workshops. Here the participants gain in-depth insights into current issues and artistic approaches in the performing arts. They explore the ways in which these are enriching and applicable for their (scenic) work with children, adolescents and adults and test ideas and methods for the preparation and follow-up of dance and theatre visits with young students. Upon request, you will receive a certificate of attendance stating the duration and content of the training.

Raus aus dem Kopf, rein in den Körper - Workshop fOR MORE MOVEMENT AND PHYSICALITY
The workshop series for everyone who wants to bring more movement into their (working) everyday life! Different exercises and small choreographies which are easily transferable to practice with children, teenagers and adults are tested playfully. A script summarizes all the exercises in a detailed guide for your own pedagogical work. Previous dancing or somatic experience is not required. Please bring comfortable clothes and something to drink.
