Three years ago, Anna von Hausswolff opened a stirring chasm of church organ, drone bass and elegiac song: her album “Ceremony” was one of the musical highlights of 2012. However, those who thought that the then 26-year old Swede had thereby exhausted the pop intensity of the church organ is now face with her new album  “The Miraculous”. The first single “Come Wander With Me/Deliverance” is an almost 11-minute long excursion into a world of dark drones, a 9000 pipe organ from a church in Piteå in northern Sweden, drum crescendi, zombie-esque Pink Floyd prog-rock guitars and Hausswolff’s celestial voice. This sounds as if the monstrous sound of the Swans had a tryst with Kate Busch.
With “The Miraculous” Anna von Hausswolff describes an actual place, both origin of Swedish folk music and backdrop to a bloody war: magic and darkness, history and mystery are combined here, musically interpreted by an artist who fuses styles, musical periods and emotions to a new whole.
