Following This resting, patience, the duet that premiered at Tanztage Berlin 2024, Ewa Dziarnowska returns to Sophiensæle with a new group work.
By pairing formality and improvisation, labor and leisure, the theatrical and the casual, this new performance proposes the stage as a space of repetition and possibility. Eclectic in its approach to codes and styles, the work layers formal, ceremonial, social and performative functions of dance with moments of stepping out of systems and individuated expression. It speaks to the evolution of dance as a practice that is at once a relational tool, a cultural object and a means of personal reckoning, becoming and resistance – a way of thinking and being in the world.
The work engages choreography and performance as accumulated knowledge: bound to embodiment and remaining open to revision both with and against the conditions of the present. It brings into relief the core reality of dance as a physical encounter rather than a visual presentation – its sensation lingering, slipping in and out of articulation.
