Paradise Now (1968-2018)

How has the world changed in the past fifty years? And what is left of the questions, values and desires of the 1968 generation? These issues are addressed by the Belgian choreographer Michiel Vandevelde together with 13 young people in Paradise Now (1968–2018). Proceeding from the legendary same-titled performance by the Living Theatre, they look back to the past in order to say something about an uncertain future: in a wild choreography of iconic images performed by young people, a horizon of possibility appears.

Michiel Vandevelde studied dance and choreography at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. He works as a choreographer, curator, author and editor, and his activities include membership of the artistic team of the performing-arts magazine Etcetera. In 2017 he began a four-year term as artist in residence at the Kaaitheater in Brussels. His work investigates the elements that constitute or subvert the public sphere, and imagines social, economic and cultural alternatives that question, challenge and transform dominant logics. He has developed numerous projects in both public space and art institutions. Paradise Now (1968–2018) is his second cooperation with the company fABULEUS.
