November 24 | Artist Talk after the Show

Tax filing is THE big community-building financial event of the year! But soon enough, frustration sets in: Too time-consuming, too complicated, too bureaucratic. And doesn't the whole system feel like exploitation? Yet the idea of a social welfare state is great: a well-functioning tax system could ensure that money goes where it's needed.

The performance collective hannsjana takes the tax return seriously as a "declaration" and turns it – with a grand glamorous gesture, together with a group of magpies – into a manifesto for a society based on solidarity. In a spectacularly theatrical way, the performers translate the dry form into their own list of demands for financial justice, taking a feminist look at bureaucratic overload in an entertaining and humorous revue.

If any questions remain from the following information, please feel free to contact Hannah Aldinger at barrierefreiheit@sophiensaele.com or 030 27 89 00 35. Please note that details may change by the day of the event.

The performance lasts 90 minutes and uses German spoken and written language. It is suitable for audiences aged 12 and over. Reflections, flickering and blinding lights and harsh light changes are used on stage. At one point there is a black-out. At some points it gets louder. Tax forms with written German are projected onto a screen. There is an interactive scene in which a person from the audience is addressed by a performer.

The audience sits in the dark. The audience area on the grandstand is seated. There are two wheelchair seats and two beanbag seats, which can be reserved or purchased at the online ticket shop or at the box office, depending on availability. If, for artistic reasons, the door to the auditorium does not open until very shortly before the performance begins, there is the option of early boarding. This is early admission for all people (especially those with visible or non-visible disabilities) who want a specific seat or a more relaxed entry. Early Boarding usually starts 10-20 minutes before the performance starts. The meeting point is next to the bar. Five minutes before Early Boarding begins, an on-site announcement will draw your attention to it once again. Our evening staff will be happy to help you find the meeting point.

As the artist collective HANNSJANA, Laura Besch, Alice Escher, Jule Gorke, Lotte Schüßler, Katharina Siemann and Marie Weich have been working together on performances, audio tours and video works since 2011. In doing so, they break with existing presuppositions and humorously, poetically, musically, and scientifically take on the examination of places and topics in order to make them experienceable and explainable to themselves and others. In their works, the audience encounters human-animal beings that open up additional levels of meaning and discourse; they hear songs about economics or ornithology, are secretly incited to eat in the museum, have art-historical excursions explained to them through aerobic exercises, or are given the opportunity to become shareholders in a performance.
