As part of the festival Making Life in the Ruins, Sophiensæle invite you on a historical tour of the building to discover the remains of the past. The building, in which Sophiensæle was founded in 1996 as a theater by artists for artists, has a complex history that bears witness to the fractures of Germany's past. From the clubhouse of the Berlin craftsmen's association in the early 20th century to a meeting venue of the workers' movement to a place of forced labor and later theater workshops in the GDR - the Sophiensæle are a living testimony of times past. The tour invites visitors to peel back the various historical layers and understand the ruins as a breeding ground for new narratives and a critical approach to the past. What remains of these fragments of history, and how can we integrate them into a new, collective future?
