July 12 | 8 PM | Artist Talk in German sign language (DGS) with translation into German spoken language
Registration starts here on June 18.

In his latest work, the dancer, actor and performer Jan Kress deals with the process of swallowing. Who swallows and why? What do we swallow just like that and what has to be swallowed? Who makes the decisions about it? What do we want to swallow and what not? When does swallowing become choking? With a focus on intensive bodywork, Jan Kress develops his own artistic language that combines sign language and dance. swallow swallow was created following a research residency of the network project Making a Difference at Sophiensæle and is also Jan Kress' first full-length solo.

Making a Difference is dedicated to building a self-empowered community of disabled and deaf artists within the Berlin dance scene. This network includes SOPHIENSÆLE, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Uferstudios, tanzfähig, Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz Berlin, TanzZeit, Diversity Arts Culture and Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin.

JAN KRESS, *1980 in Offenbach, is an actor, dancer and performer. He has been living in Berlin since 2008. He gained notoriety in 2014 through the play bodieSLANGu-age by The Progressive Wave. The unfulfilled desire to have children drives couples from Germany and Switzerland abroad. They entrust surrogates in India, the US and Ukraine to deliver their children. These ‘intending parents’ duck legal boundaries and enter unknown moral ground. Flinn Works has undertaken research in all five countries in order to gain a deeper understanding of gestational surrogacy.
