Touretteshero co-founder Jess Thom examines and reflects on the barriers and opportunities that have arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdown. Jess asks her audience to consider how we can work together to make a world that suits a broad spectrum of bodies and minds. As systems and structures start to spin back up, Jess argues that now is the ideal time to create a truly inclusive and socially just society.

“The response to COVID-19 has revealed how quickly change can happen when it’s deemed to be in everyone’s best interests. It reveals that nothing we think of as being unchangeable, actually is. Now we all know this, I want to see more action when it comes to eliminating systemic inequality.” Jess Thom

Jess Thom is co-founder of Touretteshero and may or may not lead a secret double life as a superhero. Artist, playworker, and expert fundraiser, Jess currently helps coordinate a large play project in South London. Jess has had tics since she was a child but wasn’t diagnosed with Tourettes until she was in her twenties. With some encouragement from her friends, Jess decided to turn her tics into a source of imaginative creativity and the Touretteshero project was born.
