Johannes Müller / Philine Rinnert:
Im Weissen Rössl am Central Park
Audioplay
In German

The Singspiel Im Weißen Rössl (1930) is the blue print for Heimat in German revue theatre - and was banned by the Nazis. In numerous productions by Europeans in exile, however, it continued to exist in New York, as in the adaptation by Jimmy Berg, who processed his own experiences of flight. Johannes Müller and Philine Rinnert have developed an evening of music theatre from this material, which was premiered in April 2019. Instead of a revival, the research material has now been turned into an audio play, because the musical part of the evening is exactly the kind of music that was heard in the early heyday of radio. Thus, the audio play uses the very personal story of a cultural transformation to lead us into an associative space of lost entertainment history, Jewish-German flight experience and the dazzling reinvention of home.

Johannes Müller / Philine Rinnert develop music theatre hybrids that focus on the past of opera, its effects and techniques, but which are also an archaeology of the present, of entertainment and queer culture. For their work Reading Salomé they received the jury prize at the Favoriten Festival 2016. In 2019 they were invited to Impulse Theater Festival with White Limozeen. www.johannesmueller.eu | www.philinerinnert.de
