In her new work Traumascape, Julia*n Meding investigates the connections between rationality and violence in the history of European knowledge: Even before the beginning of the Enlightenment and right up to our own day, narratives from philosophy and natural science have had a violent effect.
Together with performance artist Teta Marie Carangi, visual artist Julia König, director Friederike Hirz and dramaturg Annett Hardegen, Meding projects some of the resulting collective traumas into the stage space. They imagine rationality as violated and confront it with other forms of knowledge, perception and irrational practices in a fictional healing ritual.
By means of a queered liturgy and a working process critical of hierarchy, Meding recapitulates various moments of abuse and searches for ways of Escape from recurring rationalizing dynamics.

The piece lasts a maximum of 90 minutes without a break. The language used is mainly English. All spoken and sung texts are projected onto the stage as subtitles. There are moments in which loud music starts surprisingly. There are some very shrill, distorted sounds produced by a theremin. A theremin is an electronic musical instrument that is played without contact. Sounds from the audience are welcome. The audience area on the grandstand is seated. There are two wheelchair spaces and one beanbag seat that can be reserved by phone or booked via the online ticket shop, if available. The accessibility information will be continuously updated. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Gina Jeske at jeske@sophiensaele.com or 030 27 89 00 35.
