Kareth Schaffer:
Question of Belief

Z6003543
Kareth Schaffer:
Question of Belief
Dance
in English with German subtitles

In Question of Belief, choreographer Kareth Schaffer addresses the demons of today’s world: Between actionism and laziness, distraction and apathy, the performers Mădălina Dan and Manon Parent fight their way through stage designer Dan Lancea's inflating stage landscape. Between potato chip-fueled fantasies of world and self-improvement, smartphone-induced contactless impro or a lethargic yawning contest, rage suddenly erupts from the dancers - until the next moment of distraction. To the subtle synthesizer rhythms of sound designer Jean P'ark, a demonology of the contemporary unfolds, exploring the multiple bodily constitutions into which we are placed in the name of different belief systems. At the same time, the piece creates a space of experience for the wonders that have always been possible even beyond spiritual asceticism and the Work-Hard-paradigm.

After the premiere of Question of Belief had to take place online in April 2021 due to the pandemic, the dance performance can now be seen live in the Sophiensaele for the first time.

If any questions remain from the following information, please feel free to contact Gina Jeske at jeske@sophiensaele.com or 030 27 89 00 35. Please note that the accessibility information is subject to possible changes.

The piece lasts about 1 hour. It uses minimal English spoken language with German subtitles. However, one doesn't need to understand the spoken or written text for comprehension of the piece. At times the performers voices are quite loud and shrill. The audience area is rather dark and there will be one black out. The audience area on the grandstand is seated. There are two wheelchair spaces and one beanbag seat that can be reserved by phone or booked via the online ticket shop or at the box office, if available. If you require specific seating of any other kind, please arrive 20-30 minutes prior to show time and approach our evening staff.
