Remember Now!

Remember Now!
Who is remembered in urban space – and who is not? Who do we want to remember and in what ways can we do so? Based on debates about the toppling of statues as well as the renaming of street names and an accompanying new examination of memory culture, we invite you to a performative and interactive audio walk. The performers together with the audience appropriate the urban space to take a critical look at Berlin's places of remembrance. In dynamic scene collages they tell (hi)stories from a perspective of resistance. The project Remember Now! follows a theater pedagogical group process that was open to teenagers and young adults between the ages of 16 and 27.The recordings of the audio walk were made in the spring of 2021 and, due to this, the content of individual sequences is not up to date.
TRIGGER WARNING
The audio walk addresses colonial racist crimes and deals with anti-Semitic and racist acts and perpetrators.
The audio walk in German spoken language takes about 1.5 hours. Steps or stairs do not occur or can be avoided. The majority of the approx. 3.5 km route is covered by walking, with standing interruptions. After about 30 minutes, it is possible to take a 10-minute break to sit down. In the further course there are two more possibilities for short sitting breaks. The route leads, among other things, through narrow, very busy streets with cobblestones (Sophienstrasse, Rosenthaler Strasse, Oranienburger Strasse) and over partly uneven gravel and meadow paths (Monbijoupark). There are two public pay toilets on the route. The auditory part is heard through radio headphones, the volume of which can be adjusted individually. Loud, surprise music occurs. The audio walk is recommended for people 16 years of age and older. For questions or more information, please contact Gina Jeske at jeske@sophiensaele.com or 030 27 89 00 35.
