Whoever believes they have already seen John Gabriel Borkman on stage, only knows the beginning of the story. Markus&Markus rip down the borders between art and life, and show the Borkman of today: an unemployed coal miner who got rich off of bank deals and speculation and then landed in jail because of multiple cases of fraud. After his release from jail he holed himself up at home and became a hoarder. The theater collective has dug him out. Where does reality end here and fiction begin?

Premiere

Lara-Joy Bues, Katarina Eckold, Markus Schäfer and Markus Schmans have been working together as markus&markustheaterkollektiv since 2012. Their work is characterised by intensive research, the results of which — captured on video — form an elementary building block of their productions. They do not speak about a subject, but from within it. The people who are directly affected by the subject at hand are given a voice: their protagonists. Their work has been recognised with the George Tabori Award and the Best-Off Festival Prize of the Stiftung Niedersachsen.
