TONIGHT
Dance/Performance
Suitable for English Speakers

From The Stooges to Rihanna, TONIGHT is one of the most frequently used words in pop music, and probably the most powerful: It opens up a sense that tonight, for real, something momentous might occur. Melanie Jame Wolf critically explores the potency of this popularly shared poetic and its commercial exploitation: Joined by Sheena McGrandles and Rodrigo Garcia Alves, she delivers , “a study of how the pop industry transforms people, their souls and bodies, into clones and serial products.” (nachtkritik.de) An aesthetically dense evening that explores the pleasures and perils of the erotics, the poetics, and the politics of a shared pop imaginary.

Melanie Jame Wolf is a visual artist and choreographer who lives in Berlin. She works solo and with friends, making interdisciplinary pieces about power, flows of capital, and the phenomenon of “show business.” She examines these economies and entanglements in works for gallery, theater, and screen spaces. Approaching installation and moving image as an expanded choreographic practice, she is invested in humor as a strategy for critical possibility and in working with language in subliminal and surprising ways.

Her work has shown at HAU - Hebbel am Ufer; Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, nGbK, The National 2019: New Australian Art Biennial, Festival of Live Art Melbourne, VAEFF Film Festival NYC, Arts Santa Monica Barcelona, Schwules Museum, Sophiensaele, Münchner Kammerspiele, Arts House Melbourne; KW Institute of Contemporary Art, Kunstmuseum Basel - Gegenwart, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Kunstmuseum Basel, Kasseler Dokfest & Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane. Melanie Jame was one of 8 nominees for the Berlin Art Prize 2022. savage-amusement.com
