Inspired by the historical phenomenon of dancing manias, Danish choreographer Mette Ingvartsen explores mass outbreaks of dancing. In an intense mixture of ecstatic outbursts and relentless beats, her latest solo, “The Dancing Public”, is a dance party, a spoken word concert and an expression of physical madness to the point of exhaustion. In the aftermath of a pandemic, this shape-shifting piece asks: What is this extreme need for movement that we feel in our bodies today? Are we ready to taste life to the full again?
