MusikKantine #4 – Songslam

For one night musicians fight for fame, honour and the favour of the audience. In a cozy atmosphere, our host Kaey will lead you through a diverse programme while also performing one or two songs herself. Artists from SOPHIENSÆLE also contribute a number - out of competition, of course!  The jury is the audience, whose favourite may add a few more numbers as an encore. All the others will have a pleasant evening with good music, champagne punch and nuts.

Basic Bitches aka the Casey and Caroline Show is a band and performance group based in Dresden, Germany.  Their music swings between bluesy folk, electronic pop, witchcraft, and glam realness. One time a butterfly landed on Casey’s glistening naked torso during an un-plugged power ballade and stayed there for the entire song. If this isn’t proof to you of something, we’re not sure what is. 

Timo C Engel aka Bleedingblackwood performs atmospheric Lo-Fi Pop Hymns. Sometimes minimalistic, sometimes opulent. Sometimes borrowed from the world and transferred to the computer but always connected to nature. Acoustic guitar and toy piano, kalimba and glockenspiel – Bontempi meets accordeon, a lonely Metronome, a deep voice. Bleedingblackwood plays together with cellist Martina Bertoni. Classically trained, she has explored different territories such as improvisation, experimental and electronic music. 

ELENA PRÄTZE aka PROJEKT TIEFSEE has always written a lot and sung a lot. At some point she started to combine lyrics and beats, then produced her first own EP. Now she discovers the joys of live play and is excited about everything that lies ahead.

The singer FINJA MESSER, born 1993 in Holstein, lives and works in Berlin. In addition to her work at the theatre, she likes to write and produce her music from the couch. Her style shows influences from various genres, including soul, art-punk and pop. Her content often revolves around femininity and from time to time she would like to be a mermaid. 

RUBY JEAN ROSE is a singer/songwriter and musician. She plays folk, Americana, cabaret and cello suites in badass style and cowboy boots. She was born in the USA, played in bars in the UK and discovered street music for herself in Berlin. Ruby's stage can be anywhere!

TUCKÉ ROYALE is an actor, author and musician. From 2006 to 2011 he studied contemporary puppetry at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch. Together with Hans Unstern and Black Cracker he forms the Boiband. Tonight he and Kaey will give musical insights into their song-evening Aufbruch, Abbruch, Umbruch.
