DOUBLE BILLSavušun + Hate Me, Tender

Savušun ســـووشون  is an ode to vulnerability, to affection, to affected beings. Like a folktale, this solo finds its inspiration in commemorative Shiite rituals in Iran: the Tazi’eh and the Sin’eh Zani ceremony. Within this collective history Sourour Darabi weaves a more intimate story that questions the representation of complex and paradoxical emotions. Here, the suffering, sadness and fear that minoritized bodies endure are addressed and transformed through play, with humor and hybrid gestures both grotesque and graceful. Between real loss and symbolic loss, Savušun goes from comfort to discomfort, from tenderness to cruelty, from toxic masculinity to vulnerable identity. Trouble remains.

Sorour Darabi is a self-taught Iranian artist living and working in Paris. Working actively in Iran, s/he was a part of the underground organisation ICCD, whose festival Untimely (Teheran) hosted their work before their departure for France. During studies at the CCN de Montpellier s/he created the solo Subject to Change, a performance upon time and one’s cohabitation with an environment. In 2016, s/he created Farci.e, a solo dealing in notions of language, gender identity and sexuality. In 2018 Savušun. S/he has been a performer with Jule Flierl and Pauline Brun.

Sorour Darabi has already performed at the Sophiensæle in 2017, in the context of the Dance Days and in 2019 with Savušun, created in 2018.
