22.11., 17:00: Fiore Pagane: Workshop on feminist self-defence against online patriarchal violence

In LIARS, Henrike Iglesias, together with Olivia Hyunsin Kim and Olympia Bukkakis, examine cases of patriarchal violence and their amplification on social media. In a narrative, immersive installation, the audience moves through a performative social media feed.

The starting point is the trial between the two American actors Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard – one of many examples that mark a social backlash within discourses on sexualized and patriarchal violence since #MeToo. Why are women and queers who speak out about patriarchal violence still (or once again) so strongly distrusted? How does the myth of the “(im)perfect victim” play into this? How are social media tools being used to reinforce misogynistic and queerphobic tendencies? What role do we play as an audience? And what strategies and feminist visions help us to fight back and remain hopeful?

Henrike Iglesias is a Berlin- and Basel-based theater collective that has been working together since 2012. The core team consists of Leo G. Alonso, Malu Peeters, Marielle Schavan, and Sophia Schroth. Together with various collaborators, they create performances, installations, parties, and more. They view pop culture and mass media phenomena as mirrors of social conditions and injustices and aim to explore them from feminist perspectives.

Marielle Schavan studied Creative Writing and Staging of Arts and Media at the University of Hildesheim. She is a founding member of the queer feminist theater collective Henrike Iglesias. In addition, she works as an author, performer, and dramaturg in independent theater projects and discourse formats, such as the feminist dream school ACADEMY, the inclusive performance café KAFi Q with actors from Theater HORA at Gessnerallee Zürich, and with choreographer and director Olivia Hyunsin Kim.

Sophia Schroth studied Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Practice at the University of Hildesheim with a focus on theater and media. She is a founding member of Henrike Iglesias. In 2015, she became managing director of the event space fettschmelze in Karlsruhe. She regularly gives workshops at drama schools, including Folkwang University of the Arts in Bochum and the Academy of Performing Arts in Ludwigsburg. As a performer, she has appeared regularly in productions such as #HELDINNEN, FALTEN, and SPLASH! at Theater Bielefeld and Schauspiel Bochum.

Olympia Bukkakis, Queen of the Heavens and of the Earth, Empress of Despair, and Architect of Your Eternal Suffering, is a drag queen, choreographer, moderator, and writer living and working in Berlin. She is inspired by the tensions and intersections between queer nightlife and contemporary dance and performance.

Valentina Primavera studied art and stage design in Rome and completed her Masters in Stage and Spatial Design at TU Berlin in 2014. Since then, she has worked as a set and costume designer at venues such as Badisches Staatstheater, Vierte Welt, and Ballhaus Ost, and she develops concepts for spaces, installations, and performances in collaboration with artists like Dirk Cieslak, Sofia Simitzis, Juliet Meding, and Annett Hardegen. Her documentary Una Primavera has been screened and awarded internationally. She teaches stage design at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK).

Malu Peeters creates (spatial) sound and music film, live performances and XR installations. In addition to collaborations in the performing arts – e.g. with Olivia Wenzel, Anan Fries and machina eX – she composes and co-creates XR works, films and audiovisual installations that have been shown at IDFA DocLab Amsterdam, DOK Leipzig, GIFF Geneva, HEK Basel, Eye Film Museum, Humboldt Forum, Het HEM and Centraal Museum. Malu currently studies philosophiy and applied ethics and was participant of the 2025 Braidotti Summer School 2025. She lives and works in Berlin and Amsterdam.

Leo G. Alonso, born in 1987 in Madrid, is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. Leo holds a Master of Arts in Stage Design, Sculpture, and Audiovisual Arts from Complutense University of Madrid, and has also studied theater technology, lighting design, and new performance technologies. Recent work as a stage and lighting designer includes SPACE DUDES by Henrike Iglesias (Berlin, 2023), Turning Turandot by Olivia Hyunsin Kim (Hannover, 2024), Afterlives by Henrike Iglesias (Bangkok/Berlin, 2024), and The Fairy Queen by Olivia Hyunsin Kim (Stuttgart, 2025). For the Sportfest at Ballhaus Ost (Berlin, 2025), Leo co-developed the spatial concept together with Valentina Primavera.

Anahí Pérez works as a lighting designer and technical director for various independent theater productions. Most recently, she has collaborated with Henrike Iglesias (SPACE DUDES), Teresa Vittucci (Sane Satan, Doom), Swoosh Lieu (Reset), Heinrich Horwitz (Flipper), and Markus & Markus Theaterkollektiv (Matrix Reinsurance). Anahí studied Creative Writing and Cultural Journalism at the University of Hildesheim and lives in Berlin.

Alexis Mersmann is a costume designer and critical fashion practitioner whose work explores how textiles can reimagine relationships between people, performers, audiences, and their environment. Trained in bespoke tailoring in Hamburg, Alexis combines craft with a critical approach to the social potential of costume and clothing. Techniques like upcycling, embroidery, and mask-making are used to convey values such as care, resilience, and connection.

María F. Giacaman Hasbún (1990 in Santiago de Chile) works as a director and performer. Her artistic practice moves between scenic research and performance theater.
