EF_Femininity
Schwald/Leuenberger wanted to be girls in their childhood. In the Switzerland of the 1980s, they had a hard time of it – just like their three female performers to the experiences of their three female performers from southern India. Despite a lively queer scene and an Indian tradition that diverges from binary gender codes, the three have to fi ght as feminists, queer activists and transactivists for recognition and acceptance of their femininities. In four solos, they share personal experiences and longings that still shape their political struggles and their relationship to their own bodies today. An evening that celebrates resistance to the norm and pride in one‘s own femininity!

Since 2015, SCHWALD/LEUENBERGER have been developing documentary dance evenings that interweave dance and biographical approaches to contemporary performances. Their production «Kreutzberg» (2015), which, among other things, dealt with homosexuality during the Second World War, was awarded the prize «Schweizer Tanzerbe» by the Federal Office of Culture. The Swiss-Indian follow-up production EF_FEMININITY (2018) was invited to the Impulse Festival NRW and to the Sélection Suisse en Avignon. Both works were on the longlist for the Swiss Dance Days 2016/2019.
