In Too Much Olympia Bukkakis crashes performance against itself. Based on her own experiences as a drag performer, the Queen of the Heavens and of the Earth, Empress of Despair, and Architect of Your Eternal Suffering devotes herself to the special relationship between performer and audience. What role do language and movement conventions play? How do they influence the special dynamic between those who watch and those who act - and who does that exclude? Using her drag skills, Olympia Bukkakis subverts the valid rules and creates personae for the various performance formats: Mistakes from the rehearsal replace virtuosic performance, and between a weather reports, an ancient Greek monologue, a cello solo and a talk show - with Oozing Gloop as special guest - languages are garbled and mixed, assumptions about the audience are dismissed. Performance archetypes are knocked from their pedestals, in order to make room for those locked out of the normative audience/performer relationship. By undertaking the impossible task of conjuring all these varied genres within one single performance, Olympia Bukkakis will create moments of connection, disruption, euphoria, and tragedy.
The play lasts about 90 minutes and does not have a break. It is suitable for audiences aged 16 and older. Some parts are in German, some in English spoken language. There is loud music, which sometimes starts surprisingly. The performance makes use of fog. There is no need for audience members to be still, movement and sounds in the audience are welcome. It is possible to leave and return to the room at any point during the show. If you need a break, you can go to the foyer or bar area or to the courtyard (both on the ground floor). They are accessible via the staircase or the elevator. The audience area on the grandstand is seated. There is one beanbag seat that can be reserved by phone or booked via the online ticket shop, if available. The accessibility information will be continuously updated. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Gina Jeske at firstname.lastname@example.org or 030 27 89 00 35.
