what about: fuego: sie wachen über dich – Sophiensæle | Independent Theater in Berlin

what about: fuego:
sie wachen über dich

Three people wearing animal masks move across several platforms. One wears a white mask with long ears, another a black bird mask, and another a dark animal mask. Cool blue light shines through a curtain in the background.

In sie wachen über dich (they are watching you), the collective what about: fuego brings their deceased grandmothers onto the stage to look into the future through their past. Together, they explore strategies of resistance against digital surveillance economies.

Societies have long been under surveillance. But today prevails an economic system that feeds on our personal data, emotions, desires, and bodies. Human experiences themselves have become the raw material of capitalism.

In a multimedia performance, the collective examines how corporations profit from our data, predicting and influencing our (consumer) behavior. Together with cyberfeminist sounds from ultramorbidi, the performance raises the question: How can we reclaim technology to evade surveillance capitalism?
