MEXA: The Last Supper
Banquet performance
Duration: 1h 30 Min.
Brazilian Portuguese with German and English surtitles

MEXA was founded following outbreaks of gender specific violence in shelters for homeless people in São Paulo. Since then, the collective resides in Casa do Povo, a revolutionary Jewish cultural centre and explores the relationship between life and art, street and institution, politics and aesthetics.

Based on the Last Supper of Jesus, MEXA creates a banquet performance about farewells. Together with the performers, part of the audience takes a seat at a long table to eat. In a dramaturgy of dishes and narration, the lives of MEXA members intertwine with religious references. How do we keep the memories of those who have gone alive? What continues to exist once you are no longer there?  A festive and thought-provoking evening about the obligation to tell the stories of those who cannot tell them – and an explosive moment of union that renews a vow of solidarity.

  • Religion, negative experience with religion
  • Trans hostility, forced detransition
  • Dying, (violent) death
  • Hunger, poverty
  • Eating in large quantities
  • Faces distorted by cloth, grimaces
