Florentina Holzinger:
Silk

Silk
Suitable for English Speakers

SORRY, this show is cancelled!

Silk is a research on Silk. Silks are produced by several insects such as bees, wasps, ants, moths and spiders. Silk has a shimmering appearance, due to its structure, managing to refract incoming light at different angles. The larvae of the insect has to undergo complete metamorphosis to produce silk.

In Silk Florentina tries to confront fear through fantasy. It’s also her farewell gift to her arts education and her welcome present for the world outside. She invited S.M. Snider to accompany her on this dramatic journey. When is fake fake, and when does fake become real, when does the real appear to be fake, and what is real anyway? Whatever is being proposed, from however fake or real a source, at the moment of interception between performers and audience members as participants, what counts is the energy of exchange.

I come from a small world, where everybody is rehearsing a lot every day. The performance takes place a lot, daily and nightly. No performance is ever cancelled for any reason. Even giving birth is part of the daily practice. It’s actually the only real performance. I give birth to performances every day.

FLORENTINA HOLZINGER, born 1986 in Austria, studied choreography at the SNDO Amsterdam. After graduating in May 2011, Florentina Holzinger presented the solo Silk and received the Prix Jardin d'Europe at Impulstanz. Joint works with Vincent Riebeek such as Kein Applaus für Scheiße (2011), Spirit (2012) and Wellness (2013) attracted international attention. Their works are shown at numerous festivals and in production companies at home and abroad. As part of the festival The Future is F*E*M*A*L*E*, Florentina Holzinger showed the Performance Recovery (2017), a collaboration with Frascati Producties. In the same year she also presented her piece Apollon for the first time at the Sophiensæle. Her work TANZ was shown at Sophiensæle in 2020 and 2021 and was invited to the 57th Theatertreffen in 2020. In 2021 Holzinger created the large-scale piece A Divine Comedy for the Ruhrtriennale. For her performance in this piece, the artist Beatrice “Trixie” Cordua was awarded the German Theatre Prize DER FAUST. Holzinger’s most recent creation, “Ophelia’s Got Talent” (2022), created as artist-in-residence at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin, has been invited to the 2023 Theatertreffen.
