Insel der Dämonen
Friedrich Dalsheim’s Insel der Dämonen [Wajan - Son of a Witch] is an early example of the ethnographic film genre. This historic film rarity premiered in February 1933 and weaves a love plot around the son of the village witch with documentary footage of Balinese everyday life, music and dance scenes. For this film, the two German producers Friedrich Dalsheim and Victor von Plessen collaborated closely with Walter Spiess; his house became the cultural center of Bali in the 1930s. They cast all roles with Balinese actors.
