Jee-Ae Lim:
Your East, My Ghost
Your East, My Ghost
In this solo, Jee-Ae Lim creates an imagined space where a body turns into blurred figures, a body that is a millimeter off of everything, a monster, a demonic unicorn, a body looking at you as an active agent and a body that is being looked at as the other. Within this unstable space the body fails to fit its image, which is constructed of the known or what is considered to be known. The body resets the borders of reality, personal stories, memories, fantasies, myths, and lies. The performance gradually removes the possibility of reproducing accustomed images, which rule the individual body. Subjunctive histories are built placing the body beyond the unitary historical context.
Jee-Ae Lim combines in her work aspects of traditional Korean dance with a contemporary sensibilitiy. She holds an MA in Solo/Dance/Authorship at HZT Berlin, was chosen as the “Hoffnungsträgerin” in the yearbook 2014 of Tanz magazine and “Young Leading Artist of 2015” from the magazine Gaeksuk. Her major works include New Monster, Golden Age, the trilogy - 10 Years in 1 Minute. She explores the body as a moving archive as well as her own response to the cultural tradition and established dance history in relation to its accustomed conventions and stereotypes.
