Tanz im August 2021

Tanz im August 2021

From August 6-22, the international festival Tanz im August, presented by HAU Hebbel am Ufer, will once again show numerous artistic productions by choreographers of different generations. At HAU Hebbel am Ufer and at 10 other venues throughout Berlin, including the Sophiensæle, a total of 6 world premieres and 7 German premieres will be shown. Four outdoor venues ensure larger audience events despite possible restrictions by Corona and the imposing MaHalla, historic industrial architecture in Berlin-Oberschöneweide, is a new venue of Tanz im August.

Curated by Finn Virve Sutinen since 2014, this year's festival focuses on new works by international choreographers living and working in Berlin, including Constanza Macras | DorkyPark, Choy Ka Fai, Milla Koistinen, Lea Moro, Thiago Granato and James Batchelor. The Sophiensæle will feature two world premieres by Australian choreographer JAMES BATCHELOR and Brazilian choreographer THIAGO GRANATO. James Batchelor reimagines the Sophiensæle Festsaal as a place of queer expression and encounter with An Evening-length Performance. Thiago Granato explores the act of listening in times of ecological, political, and personal crises with The Sound They Make When No One Listens. In the world premiere of the immersive solo performance installation ARK 1 at St. Elizabeth Church, choreographer COLETTE SADLER and visual artist MIKKO GAESTEL interrogate the future of humans in relation to technology within a virtual environment. Until August 22, a total of 14 productions and other artistic formats will be presented in around 70 performances with more than 100 artists from 20 countries.

In the 2020 online festival, the conversation format HAPPY TO LISTEN has proven to be a suitable format to enable a global audience to participate online. In 2021, the conversations will be initiated by Amanda Piña as well as Livia Patrizi with Grichka Caruge. Furthermore, the well-known MEET THE ARTIST events will take place after many performances, where the audience can get into direct conversation with the artists of Tanz im August. Upcoming dates for both series of events can be found from August onwards at www.tanzimaugist.de and on the festival's social media channels. The MAGAZIN IM AUGUST will again contribute to the festival in printed form with interviews, background reports and artistic texts. Here you will also find program texts for all productions and a calendar for the festival. In 2021, the BIBLIOTHEK IM AUGUST will move exclusively to the Internet for the first time, where the interested public will again receive book tips from the participating artists. In 2022 the library is planned to be physically present again.

THE COMPLETE PROGRAM OF TANZ IM AUGUST 2021 CAN BE FOUND ONLINE AT WWW.TANZIMAUGUST.DE. Information on the applicable HYGIENE REGULATIONS is also available to visitors of Tanz im August on a daily basis on the website.
