Cripping the Pain
Pain is rarely a subject on stage. This reflects a society that often sees pain only one-dimensionally and as a negative temporary burden. A society that ignores the multifaceted experiences of people who live with chronic pain and whose disabilities often remain invisible.
The focus CRIPPING THE PAIN, which could not take place in June 2020 due to the pandemic and is now being rescheduled in digital form, presents artistic works, workshops and conversations that give space to this complexity and defy dominant ableist perceptions of the body. In their search for performative forms of expression that do justice to their individual experience of pain, the artists discover a wide range of aesthetic and spatial possibilities: an invitation to a change of perspective.
The thematic focus Cripping the Pain takes place within the framework of the project The Future is Accessible, funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe - Spartenoffene Förderung. Media partner: taz.die tageszeitung
